The Podcast About Division III Baseball

Feb 6, 2020

Welcome to Episode 57 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. This is our second of eight regional preview pods -- this one covers the South region and its four conferences. Topics include:

  • CAC
    • Salisbury (at 2:40) is looking mighty dangerous, like one-of-the-best-teams-in-America dangerous
    • Christopher Newport (at 7:15) will have to replace a big chunk of what was a truly historic D-III offense
  • ODAC
    • Randolph-Macon (at 12:20) has been chillin' near the top of the ODAC for a while; we expect nothing different
    • Shenandoah (at 17:05) is graduating some legit talent but should have enough to defend their conference title
    • Roanoke (at 20:35) is always around, doing things, winning baseball games
    • SURPRISE CALL FROM JOMBOY, INTERNET SENSATION (at 21:05) ???????????
    • Other contenders (at 23:30) like Virginia Wesleyan, Lynchburg, and Hampden-Sydney are a notch below
  • USA South
    • LaGrange (at 26:05) is always really good and has most of their group back for another postseason push
    • Methodist (at 31:15) will look to ride their superstar trio of senior hitters to a USA South title
    • Piedmont (at 34:30) is our favorite baseball team but we're worried how they're gonna replace The Killer B's
    • Other contenders (at 37:35)
  • SAA
    • Birmingham-Southern (at 38:05) made it to the  national championship series last year but will need to replace some key contributors
    • Hendrix (at 43:40) Warriors will definitely be better than the Golden State Warriors, at least in terms of winning percentage
    • Berry (at 46:50) graduated some bats and lost a junior to the Draft, but still has some talented pieces in place
    • Only Built 4 Rhodes (at 48:10) Lynx...Pt. 3: Paul Giacomazzi Goes for Gold Glove #3 (and also this team should be legit)
  • UAA
    • Emory (at 53:00) -- we can't not mention the Eagles because they will be relevant in the Pool B discussion

We concluded with a few other notable player shout outs (at 56:00), our player and pitcher of the year picks for the region (at 56:40), and our teams to beat (at 57:40). Then we say goodbye. Thanks for listening!
